Why Does Zhang Linghe Look So Good In Pursuit Of Jade? Aesthetic Doc Weighs In

Chinese actor Zhang Linghe may have been mocked for looking too polished as a war general in hit historical drama Pursuit Of Jade — with some netizens cheekily dubbing him the “Foundation General” — but you can’t deny he’s one very good looking general.

So good looking that a Malaysian aesthetic doctor couldn’t help but admire and analyse his face while watching the drama.

Dr Chew Yuhhui recently posted a video on Instagram, breaking down the 28-year-old star’s visuals, admitting she went “down the rabbit hole” comparing how he looks now versus before the series.

And her conclusion? The man was already blessed to begin with.

According to Dr Chew, Linghe looks “ten times better” in period dramas as he has “very good symmetry”, with balanced proportions across his upper, mid and lower face, plus an ideal head-to-face ratio.

Add his defined cheekbones, sharp nose, and sculpted jawline, and it’s no surprise he looks especially striking in period dramas, particularly when his hair is tied up and his bone structure is fully exposed.

Of course, the drama’s soft, dreamy lighting only makes him look more “clean, cool” and ethereal.

But beyond good genes and great camera work, Dr Chew also suspects a little aesthetic help.

She speculated that Linghe could have undergone non-invasive treatments such as collagen stimulation, skin tightening, botox, and even some dental work. Nothing drastic, just small tweaks to “refine what’s already there”.

His physical transformation likely played a part too. The actor reportedly lost 15kg and bulked up for the role, which would naturally make his features look sharper.

Some netizens agreed, saying his face looks more lifted and refined in Pursuit Of Jade, with fewer visible lines when he smiles.

Others were convinced he underwent plastic surgery, though Dr Chew disagrees. She pointed out that photos from his younger days show he looks largely the same, just slimmer, with better styling and grooming.
