Ex-One Million Star Contestant Opens Up About Breast Removal Surgery and Gender Transition Journey
Formerly known as Diana, the singer is now known as Tyler opened up about his gender transition journey, and how it has affected his singing career.
Twelve years after coming out, Taiwanese singer Diana is ready to take on the world with a new identity.
Recently, it was reported that the 44-year-old underwent partial gender-affirming surgery, including breast removal, about 10 years ago.
The One Million Star contestant had stepped away from the entertainment industry in the past few years but recently reappeared on screen with a new name — Tyler.
According to Taiwan’s Ctwant, Tyler had always identified as a male but was forced to dress and behave like a girl and do things such as playing with Barbie dolls.
But at 18, he decided he would do things his way.
Tyler admitted that he'd struggled with gender identity for 40 years, even though he knew from a young age he was not meant to be female. He also felt like his “soul was in the wrong body".
He disliked his appearance, denied his gender, and at one point was so distressed that he considered ending his life.
The singer, however, decided to make the most of the rest of his life and live for himself after experiencing the loss of loved ones in recent years.
Now, he hopes his parents, even if they cannot fully accept it, can at least try to understand him.
Truth is, Tyler had stayed incognito all the while to focus on his gender transition. Doctors advised him to increase his physical activity and regularly meet with a psychologist to address both his transition and existing health conditions.
Despite knowing that he may never fully become male, Tyler hopes to look the way he wants when he dies.
Now, the singer describes his current state as "being like a teenage boy".
“My voice is currently in a breaking phase, and I can’t sing at all anymore!” he exclaimed. Still, he believes everything has been worth it.
As for future relationships, Tyler said that he is prepared to remain single and plans to focus on himself.
