Taiwanese singer Landy Wen was rushed to the hospital after suffering septic shock and is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU). Doctors said she is “not yet out of the critical stage.”

According to Taiwanese media reports, Landy’s manager revealed that the 46-year-old developed persistent high fever and severe abdominal pain on May 14.

After noticing her condition rapidly worsening, her boyfriend and friend immediately sent her to the hospital for emergency treatment.

In a statement posted on social media, the manager shared that Landy had called early that morning saying she was feeling unwell.

“Due to a persistent high fever that would not subside, along with severe abdominal pain, she was rushed to the hospital that same day,” the statement read.

The manager later told Next Apple News that although Landy is conscious, she is currently unable to eat and remains under close observation in the ICU.

When asked about her condition, doctors reportedly said: “We are currently doing our best to save her. She is not yet out of the critical stage.”

The manager added that they are unable to disclose further details due to patient privacy and will wait for Landy to personally address the matter after she is discharged.

The manager also revealed that Landy broke down crying in her hospital room out of guilt over having to halt her work commitments.

It is understood that all of Landy’s work commitments have been suspended through the end of June as she focuses on treatment and recovery.

As concern over Landy’s health grows, director of the emergency department at Dalin Tzu Chi Hospital, Dr Lee Yi Kung, spoke to TVBS News about the dangers of septic shock.

Dr Lee explained that sepsis occurs when bacteria or viruses invade the body and trigger a severe inflammatory response.

If the condition worsens and leads to low blood pressure and inadequate blood circulation to tissues, it can develop into septic shock, a life-threatening medical emergency that often requires ICU care.

He noted that septic shock carries a high mortality rate, especially when multiple organs begin to fail.

“Data shows that if shock affects only one organ, the mortality rate is around 20 to 30 per cent. If two organs fail, the mortality rate rises to about 50 per cent. If three organs fail, the mortality rate can exceed 80 per cent,” he said.

Dr Lee added that elderly people and those with chronic illnesses such as diabetes or kidney disease are particularly vulnerable, although even healthy individuals can deteriorate rapidly if infected by highly toxic bacteria.

He also warned the public not to ignore signs of infection, especially symptoms such as persistent fever, rapid breathing, unusually fast heartbeat, confusion or drowsiness.

“Treatment for septic shock is essentially a race against time,” he said, stressing that early intervention with antibiotics and supportive care is crucial in preventing organ failure and death.
