Viral Chart Ranking Men From “Ugly” To “Handsome” Has Netizens Questioning Beauty Standards
The chart left netizens amused, with many joking that “nobody exists past 3”.
A “ranking” chart categorising male appearance from “most ugly” to “most handsome” has gone viral, with many netizens saying it reflects unrealistic beauty standards and lookism.
Titled “The 6 Stages From Ugly To Handsome”, the chart, shared on South Korean forum TheQoo, featured six photos of men ranking them across six categories, from stage 1 labelled “most ugly” to stage 6 labelled “most handsome”.
However, the post quickly sparked debate after amused netizens pointed out that the man labelled stage 3 — supposedly the “average” category — already appeared conventionally attractive.
Some joked that the chart revealed how distorted online beauty standards have become, especially in spaces influenced by celebrities, filters and cosmetic procedures.
“Nobody exists past 3 though,” read one comment.
Another wrote: “If you look at 3 vs 1, 3 is handsome. But if you look at 6 vs 3, 3 is ugly.”
Many also argued that the jump between stages 2 and 3 felt unrealistically drastic, while others said they actually preferred the more natural-looking lower rankings over the heavily polished upper stages.
“Is it weird that 3 looks the best in my opinion? 2 is cute as well. 5 and 6 look like dolls it’s kind of freaky,” asked a user.
Another commenter joked: “1-3 are the real ones. The latter are the byproduct of plastic surgery,”
Meanwhile, stages 5 and 6 drew amused reactions for looking almost too perfect to exist in real life.
“5 and 6 are just unicorns... are they only possible in fantasy...?”
