"No TV At Home": Best Host Guo Liang's Wife Unprecedentedly Asked To Watch Star Awards On Laptop To See Him Win

Star Awards 2026 was definitely one for the books for Guo Liang, who walked away with, not one, but two trophies last night (Apr 19).

The 57-year-old won Best Programme Host for his performance at the Star Awards 2025 ceremony, and also picked up his 10th Top 10 Most Popular Male Artiste trophy. This means he will be inducted as an All-Time Favourite Artiste next year.

Prior to this, Guo Liang, who was also the host of Star Awards 2026 with Cheryl Chou and Zhang Zetong, had been nominated for Best Host more than 13 times, but only won once in 2009 for CelebriTEA Break.

But the best part? Having his loved ones there to witness the special night, even if only virtually.

When 8days.sg caught up with Guo Liang backstage, where he was busy receiving congratulatory messages from his peers, he told us about a sweet surprise he received at around 6.45pm, right before the show started.

"In the past, [my wife] would only ask me for the results after the entire show had ended. But this year it was quite unique, it even made me a little nervous," he gushes.

"My son suddenly texted me asking for my laptop password. I asked him why. He told me, 'Mummy wants to watch the programme'. I was like, 'Huh?," added Guo Liang.

Guo Liang and his wife Jade Shen Jie have a 27-year-old son, Marcus.

In case you're wondering why she needed the laptop password, the veteran host says: "We have no TV at home. Everyone has their own [devices] so we don't need one. I have paintings [on the wall] but no TV."

We get it though, after all, with Guo Liang widely expected to clinch his final Top 10 award, it's no surprise his wife made sure to catch the moment in real time.

Previously, Guo Liang also shared that Jade, whom he describes as “very cool and calm”, would welcome him home with a bottle of wine after every Star Awards ceremony. On other days, she apparently doesn't allow him to drink.

When asked if he'd get an extra bottle this year to commemorate his double win, Guo Liang laughs: "Don't need to add lah. [The wine] has been prepared, she sent me [a photo] and is already asleep."

Speaking of hosting Star Awards this year, we couldn't help but ask Guo Liang about his co-hosts Zetong and Cheryl, who are recently rumoured to be dating.

Did he feel like a third wheel standing between them? Guo Liang exclaims: "No lah! I'm the parent who gives them my blessings please."

He also had nothing but praise for their chemistry.

"I don't know what their relationship is, but they must at least be very close or familiar with each other," says Guo Liang.

"I think you can tell, and by that I mean, if they're on good terms in real life, it makes it easier when they're working [together]," he explains.
