Tyler Ten swept up three awards on Sunday (Apr 19), including Best Supporting Actor for his role as lovable gangster Bai Ah Li in Emerald Hill, his first-ever nomination in the category.
On top of that, the 30-year-old also bagged Most Popular Rising Star (for the second year running) and the Bioskin Most Charismatic Award.
When 8days.sg caught up with Tyler, he told us how he is still in disbelief how the night went for him, and that he was still processing everything in real time.
“To be nominated for Best Supporting Actor for the first time was already an honour. This is a win not just for me, but for the Emerald Hill team. If not for them, there won’t be Bai Ah Li,” he says.
With an acting award in his hand, we ask how he would respond to his critics who say he “can’t act”?
Instead of clapping back to prove his detractors wrong, he doubles down on how he plans to do even better.
“Well, I am still trying my best in whatever role I take on, big or small. Though I might not achieve your standard of acting, I am still learning," he says.
With momentum clearly on his side, is Tyler also hoping for a Best Actor award next year?
"Of course I would love to, but I'll have to wait and see how the audience reacts after my new drama airs. My role doesn’t have that many highlights but being nominated for Best Actor would be one of my biggest hopes,” he quipped.
For now, Tyler says he can’t wait to head home and celebrate indulge in… not Shin Ramyun like last year, but cake?
Initially saying he would just rummage the fridge, we pry further and he says, “I want to order a Nutella cake tomorrow, but it is so late now. I will remember to order it tomorrow” he wistfully sighs, as if already imagining it.
Well, not like Tyler, who is known to have one of the best bods around, can't afford it.
