While most Singaporeans are happily using CDC vouchers for food and shopping, even Pokemon cards, one content creator is trying to figure out who the CDC vouchers belong to in the first place - her or her landlord?
In a video that has racked up more than 207K views on Instagram, 25-year-old Isabelle Quek, who lives in a rented flat, shared that her landlord had "asked [her] to pass her [Isabelle's] CDC vouchers!"
“Oh my god, my landlord asked me to log into my SingPass, so [that] she can take my CDC vouchers!” exclaimed the The Streamers Go Live contestant.
“But if I have to log into my SingPass, that means it belongs to me, what. Then, why are you taking my CDC Vouchers away?" a confused Isabelle asked.
“I don’t understand. I mean, I guess there is like one [set of vouchers] for the house, is it? I’m so confused, because, if you have to log into my SingPass, right, then I think it belongs to me and it doesn’t belong to you, no?”
According to the CDC website, the vouchers belong to the Singaporean household that has their NRIC registered to the address, which could mean either the tenant or the landlord. The site also states that individuals can file appeals at community centres.
While Isabelle usually communicates via the landlord's property agent on most rental matters, she shared that this time, the landlord had asked the agent for her number to contact Isabelle directly.
“Obviously I said yes [to giving her my phone number] because I wanted to keep a good relationship with her,” she explained.
After the landlord had requested for Isabelle's CDC vouchers, the content creator asked: "Don't you have yours?"
The landlord replied: “Oh, I can get [the vouchers], but it’s going to be very difficult for me to get it”.
“Why is it difficult? The government made things so easy for, like the elderly, excuse me?” asked Isabelle in the video.
Isabelle's conundrum sparked a discussion in the comments section, where the content creator also divulged a few more details about the whole kerfuffle.
When one netizen advised her to submit an appeal, Isabelle replied: "Our agent should've shared this with us man. He asked me to pass her either $150 or transfer her cash... lol."
When asked by netizens asked if she ultimately gave her landlord the vouchers, Isabelle replied: "Not yet, and I think I don't have to also...?"
Another advised Isabelle to just say no via the agent.“But later [the] landlord [will] think I yayapapaya, and [wanna] create a barrier between us. How?” she replied in the comments.
Some even went so far as to tag the Singapore Police Force's Instagram account in the comments.
One even advised Isabelle jokingly by asking her to tell the landlord that if she wants extra CDC vouchers, “go and do the walking trail”.
Said netizen was probably referring to the About Walking Trails@CDC where up to S$50 CDC Vouchers are up for grabs upon completing all the tasks.
8days.sg has reached out to Isabelle for updates on the situation.
