Zhang Linghe’s Studio To Compensate Fans After Mall Glass Shattering Incident
We already knew Zhang Linghe was one of China's hottest young stars right now, but his latest appearance has proven that his popularity may have reached another level entirely.
The 28-year-old Pursuit of Jade actor was scheduled to attend an event for eyewear brand MOLSION at Nanning Vientiane City in Guangxi on May 31.
Unfortunately, the event never got off the ground.
According to reports, an overwhelming number of fans had gathered at the venue, with some reportedly queuing overnight in hopes of catching a glimpse of the star.
When the mall opened, the crowd surge allegedly became so intense that the tempered glass entrance shattered under pressure.
The incident reportedly left five people with minor injuries and forced organisers to cancel the event at the last minute due to safety concerns.
Needless to say, fans were devastated — especially those who had travelled from other cities specifically to attend.
But in a move that has earned widespread praise online, Zhang Linghe's studio quickly stepped in.
Later that same day, the actor's team announced that fans who had travelled for the event would be eligible for reimbursement of various expenses.
The compensation package reportedly covers hotel stays in Nanning between May 30 and 31, as well as airfare, high-speed rail, train and long-distance bus ticket cancellation or change fees incurred between May 30 and June 1.
Even local transportation costs within Nanning — including taxis, buses and MRT rides — may be reimbursed, provided fans can show proof that they were travelling to the mall for the event.
Fans have until noon on June 3 to submit the necessary forms, while reimbursements are expected to be completed by June 15.
While no official figure has been released, external estimates suggest the total payout could run into the six-figure RMB range.
The move has drawn praise not only because of its scale, but because the actor's team reportedly had no legal obligation to compensate attendees in the first place.
Many observers believe the gesture will further strengthen Zhang's already formidable fanbase.
According to Chinese media reports, crowd management issues may have contributed to the incident, with insufficient crowd diversion measures allegedly failing to cope with the sheer number of people arriving at the venue.
Even so, Zhang's studio made it clear that fan safety came before everything else.
In its statement, the team stressed that “safety is always [their] top priority.”
The studio also acknowledged that this was Zhang's first official work trip to Nanning and recognised the effort many fans had made to attend.
"Every time we meet, we can truly feel your enthusiasm and sincerity. We share your feelings of hurt and regret that you came with high hopes but left disappointed," they wrote.
For disappointed fans, it may not have been the meeting they had hoped for — but it was certainly a gesture they won't forget anytime soon.
