How This Couple’s Wedding Drew a Guest List Full of A-Listers Like Tony Leung, Carina Lau & Rosamund Kwan
The glittering Taipei celebration was attended by Hong Kong and Taiwan’s biggest stars — thanks to the bride and groom’s seriously powerful family connections.
Move over, Golden Horse Awards, there was another red carpet moment happening across town.
Last Saturday (Nov 22), a super high-profile wedding took place at Le Méridien hotel in Taipei, and the guest list was so star-studded it could have passed for an awards show after-party.
Among the Hong Kong and Taiwan A-listers spotted: Tony Leung Chiu Wai and wife Carina Lau, Rosamund Kwan, Chingmy Yau and daughter Shum Yuet, Sylvia Chang, Tony Leung Ka Fai, Kenny Bee, Anita Yuen and Stella Chang. Even veteran host Chang Hsiao Yen, who has not appeared in public for a long time, made a rare appearance.
So who could attract such an A-list guest list?
The bridal couple, reportedly childhood sweethearts, come from impressive backgrounds.
The groom, Justin Wang, is the grandson of the late “Henan King” Wang Jen Sheng, a Taiwanese legend whose Tung Yu Electric and Dennis Department Store empire made him one of Asia’s richest self-made tycoons.
Having fled to Taiwan at age 14, Wang Jen Sheng once worked as a primary school teacher before entering business.
He later returned to his hometown in Henan to invest and became the world’s largest supplier of Christmas lights, amassing a fortune exceeding tens of billions.
Justin’s father, Wang Shang Ching, the second son of the Henan King, now heads Tung Yu, while his mother is Tsai Chia Hua, comes from another powerful family — she’s the granddaughter of Cathay Holdings founder Tsai Wan Chun.
If that sounds familiar, that’s because Taiwanese actress Terri Kwan is part of the same clan — Justin is her nephew.
The bride Shen Ting Ting is equally well-connected.
Her father Shum Kin Wai is the younger brother of Chingmy's husband Shum Kar Wai, and co-founder of Hong Kong fashion retail group I.T.
Yes, that means Terri and Chingmy are now in-laws. Talk about a glamorous family tree.
