’90s Drama My Date With A Vampire Getting Movie Remake; Joey Meng AKA The Original Ma Xiaoling To Cameo
The film adaptation of the hit Hong Kong drama will star Karena Ng and Bosco Wong.
After 24 years, classic Hong Kong drama My Date With A Vampire is getting a movie remake.
The 1998 series, which revolves around the romance between vampire Kuang Tian You and ghostbuster Ma Xiao Ling, played by Eric Wan and Joey Meng respectively, gained a cult following, spawning two seasons.
The film adaptation, titled 驱魔龙族马小玲, which can be loosely translated as ‘Ghostbuster Ma Xiao Ling’, will be helmed by the drama's original creator Chan Sap Sam. He also doubles up as producer and screenwriter.
In the movie version, the two leads will be played by Hong Kong stars Bosco Wong and Karena Ng. It also stars Ray Lui, Jacky Cai, and Malaysia-born model Fish Liew.
But the name fans are most excited to see is Joey, who will be making a cameo appearance.
Joey, who is Sap Sam’s wife, agreed to take on the role to lend support to her hubby.
Sap Sam revealed that following the success of the first series, many people had approached him to make a movie version.
He finally agreed after more than two decades as he was moved by investors.
While the plot for the movie is unknown, Karena has been spotted in a school uniform filming in an abandoned campus, sparking speculation that the film could be a prequel to the drama series.
The movie is slated to hit theatres next year.
