Louis Koo & His Film Company Sued For S$24.5Mil Over Unpaid Loan

Hong Kong star Louis Koo, 55, and his production company One Cool Film Production have been sued for more than HK$149mil (S$24.5mil) over an allegedly unpaid loan from an offshore company.

According to Hong Kong reports, British Virgin Islands-registered company Sino Hero Ventures filed a lawsuit in the Hong Kong High Court this week, accusing Louis and One Cool of failing to repay a HK$70mil (S$11.5mil) loan taken out in 2019.

The loan was originally due in 2020, but the repayment deadline was subsequently extended twice to the end of 2022.

According to the writ, One Cool began making repayments in 2022, but has repaid only HK$13.9mil (S$2.3mil) so far.

Sino Hero is now seeking more than HK$149mil (S$24.5mil) in principal and interest from Louis and One Cool.

The lawsuit has drawn attention given Louis' status as one of Hong Kong showbiz's biggest players.

Since founding One Cool Group in 2013, the actor has built an entertainment empire spanning film production and investment, artiste management, post-production and visual effects.

One Cool has been behind major Hong Kong films including Warriors of Future (2022), Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In (2024) and the recent Back to the Past, all of which starred Louis.

Andy Lau has even called him Hong Kong's "real movie mogul".

Louis’ success has also made him one of local showbiz’s wealthiest stars.

The media previously estimated his annual income at HK$400mil (S$65.7mil), while his net worth has been reported to exceed HK$1bil (S$164mil).

The star is also known for his philanthropic side.

Since setting up the Koo Tin Lok Charitable Foundation in 2009, Louis has funded the construction of schools and other facilities in rural China.

He has also quietly helped fellow showbiz friends in need. In 2018, Louis reportedly paid more than HK$200K (S$33K) for veteran actor Lo Hoi Pang's angioplasty after the latter was found to have a severely blocked blood vessel.
