But the actor's company has since hit back with a lawyer’s letter denying the director’s claims.

Hong Kong director Ren Xia, who directed the 2018 film A Life Of Papers, has accused Louis Koo’s film company, One Cool Film Productions of withholding payment for said film.

A Life Of Papers won the grand prize at the 2018 Taipei Golden Horse Film Project Promotion, which came with a cash prize.

However, Ren Xia is accusing the production company of being shady when distributing the screenwriting fees and cash money.

In a lengthy statement published on Equal Write Union Hong Kong’s Facebook page, Ren Xia shared that the production company did not name him as one of the screenwriters for the film, and has withheld payment for over three years.

He alleged that the production company signed a contract with the producer of A Life Of Papers, Shu Kei, acknowledging the latter as the screenwriter instead.

Additionally, the production company is said to have spent all of the “million-dollar cash prize” that was awarded after winning the Golden Horse Film Project Promotion, without the consent of Ren Xia.

While Ren Xia was initially credited as the director for the film on the poster, he seems to have been removed, with the text now mentioning Shu Kei as the producer.

No more Ren Xia?

Equal Write Union then called for One Cool Film Productions, as well as Louis, to step up to clarify this dispute, as their repeated negotiations have failed to yield any results thus far.

In response, One Cool Film has published their own statement, along with a lawyer’s letter. The production company asserted that the screenwriter for the film was indeed Shu Kei, and that Ren Xia only took part in the project as he had been recommended to the company by Shu Kei himself.

As for the payment that Ren Xia was owed, One Cool Film shared that they’ve paid Ren Xia in full, and even included a breakdown of how the cash prize was spent. Finally, they requested for Ren Xia to apologise for their defamatory remarks.

“We do not intend to get Mr Louis Koo [involved] in this,” the company added.
