Louis Koo Targeted By Laser Pointer At Event, Raising Concerns Over Aggravating His Eye Condition

Hong Kong actor Louis Koo has often been seen wearing sunglasses at public appearances in recent years — but it’s not a fashion statement.

The 55-year-old star previously revealed he suffers from an eye condition, including two holes in the retina of his right eye and severe floaters, which make his eyes highly sensitive to light.

A recent incident has therefore left fans both alarmed and worried.

At the Hong Kong Film Directors’ Guild Awards, Louis was reportedly targeted by a green laser pointer as he arrived at the venue.

In a video circulating on Threads, a large crowd can be seen gathered as the actor pulls up in a black vehicle. As he steps out, a bright green beam suddenly shoots out from the crowd and is directed toward his face, at one point hovering dangerously close to his eyes.

Despite the disturbance, Louis briefly greeted fans before heading quickly into the venue.

The laser light appeared to follow him for a short distance, raising concerns about whether the act was deliberate.

The netizen who shared the clip said they saw someone “randomly shining a green laser pointer directly into Louis Koo’s eyes,” adding that they would have confronted the culprit if they had identified them.

The footage quickly sparked backlash online, with many condemning the act as “intentional harm” and urging authorities to take action.

Some speculated it could have been the work of an anti-fan, while others highlighted the potential dangers of laser pointers, especially given Louis’ existing eye condition.

Louis has previously shared that his floaters are so severe he often sees black lines drifting across his vision.

Wearing sunglasses helps reduce the discomfort by darkening his surroundings.

Although he has planned surgery to repair the retinal damage, the procedure has yet to be scheduled as it would require him to rest and avoid flying, potentially impacting his work commitments.
