Toro of Energy Remembers The Champion, 20 Years After Mediacorp Swim Drama Aired

Remember The Champion, the 2004 Mediacorp swim drama that gave us Fiona Xie's legendary Orchard Road bikini run?

Toro from Taiwanese boyband Energy, just sent fans right back there with poolside pics and old drama stills on Instagram.

“Oh my! It’s been 20 years since I last swam in Singapore. I think the last time as when I was starring in a show. I heard it was the record-breaking ‘first’ Singaporean idol drama,” the 43-year-old star wrote.

He was back in town for the YES 933 Hits Fest on Sep 28.

In the show, Toro’s character found himself entangled in a love triangle with Fiona  and Joyce Chao.

Off-screen, there were rumours that he and Fiona were dating.

Toro, who played a water polo player, once admitted he felt embarrassed filming in swimming trunks alongside co-stars Qi Yuwu and Taiwan’s Johnny Yen, both of whom had sculpted six-packs.

To ease his nerves, he even asked the director if he could film his scenes while submerged in the water as much as possible.

Which might just explain why, 20 years later, his latest poolside pics feel like the perfect full-circle moment.
