YES 933 DJ Kunhua's Car Splattered With Paint After Carpark Repainting At His Estate; Takes It As A “Huat” Sign
If you found your car splattered with paint, would you freak out, or would you declare it a lucky omen? YES 933 DJ Zhong Kunhua, 40, clearly belongs to the latter group, taking the mishap as an auspicious sign instead of an inconvenience.
Earlier this week, Kunhua took to Instagram to share a collection of photos showing the rear of his black car dotted with small splatters of white paint.
He captioned: “When your carpark is undergoing painting works. How ah?? Who can I find for help? #huatah.”
What most people probably thought upon seeing the photos? “Wah, so suay.”
Speaking to 8days.sg, Kunhua said he only discovered the paint splatters last weekend.
“I was a little slow to notice because the paint splatters were at the back of my car. I only realised it at night when I wanted to open my car boot.”
He quipped: “I was like… wait, is this paint or bird poop? [My first thought was that] I better confirm first before getting emotional. Honestly, I always kena bird poop outside, so I thought maybe some birds had diarrhoea.”
The incident occurred at his home car park, where repainting works have been ongoing. “Whenever my car happens to be in their working area, they’ll usually wrap it with a car cover,” he explained.
Although he said he’s not the “super-precious-about-[his]-car” type, he admitted it was still a pity to see it in that condition.
Kunhua added that the painters have generally been careful, but he suspects the splatters likely happened when they were working on the level above his lot, with paint possibly dripping through gaps in the railings without anyone realising.
Upon finding out about the splatters, he approached the painters.
“To be fair, they were quite helpful and even offered to clean the car for me,” he shared.
His followers and friends were also quick to send helpful advice his way. Some suggested sending the car for a proper polish, while others urged him to seek compensation from the contractor. A few even recommended approaching the Town Council or filing a complaint with HDB.
“And of course, there were also the funny ones who said, ‘It’s a sign, time to change car already!’,” he added.
For those wondering if Kunhua has acted on the “auspicious” sign, perhaps by going big on Chinese New Year gambling, we’re sorry to break it to you — he confesses he’s been too busy with recent gigs and his radio show to even send his car for a proper cleaning yet.
“I did try cleaning it myself and managed to remove some of the smaller spots, but for the bigger [patches], I think it’s better to leave it to the professionals. It’s been a busy week for me, but I’ve already arranged a time with the painters to get it sorted out,” he told us.
Still, a sign is a sign, and Kunhua sticks to his positive, upbeat outlook despite the minor inconvenience.
He jested: “I’m someone who prefers to look at the brighter side of life. Since it happened during [the Chinese New Year period], I’d rather see it as a huat sign! Maybe it’s the God of Fortune blessing my car with some ‘huat juice’.”
