Rui En Grieves The Passing Of Her First Cat, Muffin, An SPCA Rescue

It’s no secret that local actress Rui En, 45, is a bona fide cat mum. 

“I’m just not someone who wants to have kids, nor someone who feels incomplete without having kids, but we all do have a nurturing side, and I translated that onto my animals” she told 8days.sg in 2020, after the unexpected loss of her four-year-old Persians, Michi and Muppet.

She added: “I really do treat them as my kids, so when you have a child pass away suddenly, it’s very traumatic.”

Despite the pain of losing her fur kids, Rui En continues to raise cats and, as of 2025, her family included four precious members, Muffin, Mr Meowgi, Momo, and Mei Mei.

But with all the love she gives also comes an equal measure of heartbreak.

On Thursday (Feb 26), Rui En shared on her Instagram story that Muffin had passed away.

The actress, a devoted Christian, penned: “Around 3 plus am God led me to her. Sensing it was time, I had a good sob and prayed for her. I cried out to Him asking for help. He responded by taking her soon after while I was sleeping.”

“Thank you all who have been praying, I’m so grateful I got that goodbye and that she didn’t suffer long,” she continued. 

In a January 2025 interview with The Straits Times, Rui En revealed that Muffin, a SPCA rescue, was her very first cat.

She said back then: “I adopted her about 10 years ago when she was just a kitten. She was stuck in a glue trap that was used to catch rats.”

Rui En had also spoken about Muffin’s health issues, adding that being deaf sometimes made her “a bit feisty”.

Though Muffin has passed, the animal lover’s affection for her cats remains strong, showing the special bond she has with them. As she told us six years ago, “It's a bit corny, but really, it's okay to not be okay.”
