Australian Fitness Influencer Shocked To Find ION Orchard Cleaner Is 91 & Still Working 12-Hr Shifts
The heartwarming yet bittersweet encounter has touched many online.

When Australian fitness influencer Jaden Laing stopped by the toilets at ION Orchard during his trip to Singapore, he didn’t expect to walk away with a life lesson.
Jaden, who proudly calls himself the "third strongest man in Australia", recently posted a video on Instagram of his encounter with an elderly cleaner in the mall restroom.
“I noticed a really elderly man working hard in the bathroom in Singapore, so I gave him money for lunch… A powerful reminder that honouring the elderly is part of honoring God Himself,” he wrote in the caption, quoting from Leviticus 19:32.
In the clip, Jaden struck up a conversation with the cleaner, Nam A Young.
The senior revealed that he's 91 years old, works 12-hour shifts, from 7am to 7pm, keeping the toilets spotless.
“You're 91 years old? No way. Still working? You're the man, brother,” Jaden exclaimed, before exchanging a fist bump with the sprightly nonagenarian, whom he called a legend.
The two chatted briefly about life and health. When Jaden asked how he managed to stay so healthy without exercise, A Young replied that his daily routine of “work, go back, sleep” kept him strong.
Moved by the encounter, Jaden gave A Young a generous tip of what looks like at least $150, urging him to get lunch.
“Love you, brother. Take care. Keep working hard, you’re a soldier,” Jaden said, hugging him before leaving.
The delight on A Young’s face was unmistakable.
The wholesome clip has since garnered more than 205K likes and comments, with many praising Jaden for his kindness and for taking the time to acknowledge the hard work of Singapore’s elderly cleaners.
One user wrote: “The beautiful elderly gentleman was so happy that someone stopped to ask him how he was, and showed a genuine interest in him.”
Another added: “He did something that no one has ever done — striking up a convo with the uncle or auntie who work to make sure those toilets are clean for use. Much respect.”
Others noted the bittersweet reality behind the exchange.
“So sad to see at 91 he's still working and not living his life. That’s just how it is, right? And yet he’s still happy,” commented one netizen.
Others pointed out that Jaden’s generous tip — which some sharp-eyed netizens estimated to be between $200 and $300 — would go a long way.
“That was a big tip you gave him and it would easily help him with his groceries for the month. Bless up,” wrote one.
A second said: “It really means a lot, I’m from Singapore and I heard our cleaners get paid less than $2K a month.”
