S'pore Groom Surprises Bride With Taufik Batisah Singing at Their Wedding After “Shot in the Dark” Request
Romzi, 28, had an idea to contact his wife’s idol, and Taufik really came through.
A Singaporean man recently shared an Instagram video capturing a special moment from his wedding — surprising his wife by inviting Singapore Idol Taufik Batisah to serenade them on their big day.
Speaking to 8days.sg from his honeymoon in Italy, the groom, Romzi, 28, revealed how he pulled off the plan to surprise his bride, Natasya, 24.
“Planning started in February 2023, seven months before our wedding,” shared Romzi. The couple tied the knot at the Sofitel City Centre Ballroom on September 14.
Taking a chance, he reached out to Taufik — and everything soon fell into place.
“I actually Whatsapped Taufik’s team with the number found on his Instagram bio. It was a shot in the dark and I got an immediate 'Yes' from his team. It was shocking to me as his team mentioned he doesn’t usually do weddings, and mine would be the first,” said Romzi.
Taufik, who also juggles careers as a real estate consultant and restaurant owner, posted a short clip from the day as well. He shared that in the past 21 years, he had only ever performed at weddings for family and friends.
When 8days.sg asked if he offered to pay Taufik for his appearance, Romzi said he “can’t disclose the amount”.
He and wife are both fans of the singer. “But my wife is [a bigger fan],” he laughs.
“She said to me ‘Are you serious!?’ when we were seated on the dais,” he added.
Romzi shared that none of the guests knew about Taufik’s surprise appearance and were just as stunned as his wife when he walked in. “The only people who knew were my wedding coordinator and the emcee,” he revealed.
As it turns out, this wasn’t the couple’s first encounter with Taufik. Though not friends, Romzi and Natasya had previously met him at a Hari Raya expo, where he was running a booth selling baju kurung.
As for Taufik, the singer ended his video with a playful question to his followers: “Guys, should I perform at your wedding next?”
Looks like he might just be open to wedding gigs now.
