Chew Chor Meng Missed Daughter's NUS Graduation, But Proudly Celebrated Her Big Day At Home

Graduation day is one of those occasions where parents want to celebrate their child's milestone achievement. 

For veteran Mediacorp actor Chew Chor Meng, however, celebrating his daughter's NUS graduation looked a little different. 

His daughter, Chloe, graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) with a degree in Communications from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

While Chor Meng wasn't spotted at the graduation ceremony itself, photos shared by his wife, Deon Tan, on Instagram later showed the actor beaming as he posed with Chloe and her graduation bouquet at home.

The family didn't explain why Chor Meng wasn't at the ceremony, though it's believed his absence may have been due to the mobility challenges he has faced in recent years after being diagnosed with Kennedy's Disease in 2008, a rare progressive motor neuron disorder that causes muscle atrophy.

Alongside the photos, Deon penned an emotional tribute to their eldest daughter.

"Seeing the person you have grown into today fills us with immense pride," she wrote.

She described Chloe as an easy child to raise and praised her for being disciplined, sensible and hardworking throughout her years in school.

Deon also called her dependable and responsible, adding that she had never given the family any cause for worry.

As Chloe embarks on the next chapter of her life, Deon wished for her to remain honest and humble, and to continue trusting that God would guide her path.

Although Chor Meng has kept a lower profile in recent years, it hasn't slowed him down.

These days, he's also known as an entrepreneur, co-owning several popular food businesses, including Tam Chiak Kopitiam with LOVE 972 DJ Dennis Chew and food content creator Miss Tam Chiak.

He is also one of the people behind popular Thai barbecue chain 888 Mookata.

Fans last saw Chor Meng on screen in the Ch8 drama Where the Heart Belongs, which aired in July last year.

Earlier this May, Chor Meng also surprised fans by releasing an AI-generated song titled After the Curtain Falls (谢幕之后). The reflective track looked back on his 36-year showbiz journey, from winning Star Search 1990 to learning how to navigate life after his diagnosis.
