Chew Chor Meng's Pei Chun Public School Principal Tutored Him 1-On-1 Daily 'Cos Of His Poor Results

It was Teacher's Day yesterday (Sep 5) and we all have that one or two mentors in life whom we'll remember forever.
For Mediacorp actor Chew Chor Ming, the person he'd always be grateful for is his primary school principal, Mr Chen Keng Juan.
In a recent interview with Chinese media 8world, the 56-year-old actor looked back on Principal Chen's impact on him during his time at Pei Chun Public School.
"I remember in Primary 4, my Math and Science results were very poor. Principal Chen would ask me to go to his office at 6:45am every morning for one-on-one tutoring," said Chor Meng, who graduated in 1980.
Thanks to Principal Chen's love and patience, Chor Meng's grades showed significant improvement after two to three months.
More importantly, the educator's selfless care and support helped the actor build and regain his confidence in learning.
Chor Meng also recalled how Principal Chen was there for him during his troubled teenage days.
“Because my father passed away when I was in Primary 3... I became quite self-conscious, introverted, and didn’t like to talk. But I’m very grateful to have met a good principal who slowly guided, taught, and helped me," he said.
Principal Chen is best known for being the longest-serving principal of Pei Chun Public School from 1970 to 2002. He is highly respected for his contributions to the school for over three decades, and was awarded a Long Service Medal in 1998.
Chor Meng was also glad to be invited back to his alma mater to film a video for the school’s 90th anniversary celebration in 2023, where he reunited with Principal Chen again.
