Desmond Ng Likens Welcoming Newborn Son To Winning World Cup: "I'm Already Holding [My Trophy]"

The FIFA World Cup 2026 concluded on a high this morning (Jul 20), with Spain edging Argentina 1–0 to be crowned world champions.

While many fans spent the night leading up to the big moment guessing who would take the trophy home, Mediacorp actor Desmond Ng seemed to have already called the winner even before the final kickoff. 

Who? Surprise, surprise: it's himself.

Just last night, the 38-year-old actor took to Instagram to share an adorable photo with his 12-day old son, Kai Kai in front of the television.

Desmond, who was wearing a blue football jersey, held his newborn a la Lion King-style as a World Cup match played on TV in the background.

"World Cup Final tomorrow morning. While the world fights for the trophy, I'm already holding mine," gushed the blissful first-time father.

The actor had announced Kai Kai's arrival just last week with his wife, local influencer Kanny Theng, 39. The couple tied the knot in March last year.

"Ladies and gentlemen, after months of waiting, he's finally here," he wrote at that time. 

"Thank you for choosing us to be your parents. From this day forward, our lives are forever changed for the better."

He also described Kai Kai as their "greatest blessing, greatest joy, and the beginning of [their] greatest adventure."
