TVB News Anchor With Singaporean Parents Called 'Prettier' Than Miss Hong Kong 2026 Winner

Imagine winning a beauty pageant only to have netizens talking about how the news anchor reporting your victory is prettier than you.

The Miss Hong Kong 2026 pageant was held on Aug 30, with Bernice Yuen crowned champion, and Ada Tang and Scarlett Li finishing first and second runner-up respectively.

But following the pageant, much of the attention unexpectedly went to TVB news anchor Jacky Lin, who was reporting on the results that night.

Dressed in a red blazer with understated make-up, Jacky appeared on screen alongside photos of the newly crowned top three.

Netizens took screenshots and started making comparisons.

Praising her elegant demeanour, many said Jacky was “prettier than the winner”.

Others dubbed her the “hidden champion” of the night and suggested she should enter a beauty pageant herself.

Ouch.

While Jacky, 33, may have unexpectedly stolen the spotlight that night, she is no stranger to attention.

The Hong Kong-born anchor, whose parents are Singaporean, has long been dubbed “Goddess of News” by TVB viewers.

And she has the credentials to match.

Jacky graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with a degree in English before obtaining a master's degree in Literary and Cultural Studies from the University of Hong Kong.

Before joining TVB's news department in 2019, she worked as a secondary school teacher for almost three years. She started out at TVB as a reporter before taking on anchoring duties.

She also speaks five languages: Cantonese, Mandarin, English, Japanese and French.

Jacky tied the knot with fellow TVB news reporter and anchor Timothy Li in January this year, with some of her admirers joking online at the time that they were “heartbroken”.

 And as if getting upstaged by the news anchor wasn't enough, one of the judges also stole some of their thunder.

Former Miss Chinese International winner Christine Kuo, 43, also had netizens gushing over her looks.

“She could enter the pageant again and still win,” read one comment.

Another netizen, who claimed to have seen Christine in person, said: “She’s really tall and beautiful — the kind who immediately catches your eye.”

Tough crowd this year.
