Faye Wong Looks Like Daughter’s PA As She Trails Behind Her & Fusses Over Their Bags At Airport

Netizens joked that even the Mandopop diva has to play “Ah Sei” (servant) when she’s out with her daughter.

Imagine having Faye Wong as your personal assistant.

Well, that’s what netizens joked after the 57-year-old Mandopop diva was recently spotted at Beijing airport with her 20-year-old daughter Li Yan.

Dressed in a sheer white top over black bra and a skirt, the 1.75m-tall Li Yan confidently walked ahead of her mum, looking very much like the star of the show.

Faye, meanwhile, was characteristically low-key in a roomy grey tee and jeans.

And while Li Yan breezed ahead, Faye was busy fussing over their luggage as it was being loaded into the car.

The sight of one of Chinese pop music’s biggest stars on luggage duty naturally amused netizens, who joked that Faye looked more like her daughter’s “Ah Sei” (阿四) — Cantonese slang for a servant or lackey.

“Even the Heavenly Queen has to carry the young miss’ bag,” laughed one.

“It’s so rare to see her being a mum. Even a Heavenly Queen has to carry the bags and watch the luggage when she’s with her kid, while the kid just walks,” wrote another.

Others were amused to see the famously elusive star behaving like, well, any other mum.

Heavenly Queen or not, mum duties are mum duties.

Months after we visited the upper floor following reports of shuttered shops and sparse foot traffic, we returned on a Friday afternoon to see whether things had changed. This time, Level 2 had noticeably more people around, from teenagers and tourists to older shoppers. More importantly, shoppers were actually interacting with the stalls, trying things on and making purchases, rather than simply browsing and walking through. There are still plenty of shuttered units, and Level 2 remains much quieter than the ever-busy ground floor, but the atmosphere felt noticeably livelier during our visit. Bugis Street is also hosting its “Somewhere @ Bugis Street” weekend events as part of its ongoing efforts to bring more activity to the area.
