Christine Fan’s Rep Responds To Rumours About “Cremation Necklace” With Barbie Hsu’s Ashes

Taiwanese singer Christine Fan, 49, was known to be close friends with the late Barbie Hsu, who passed away  in February from influenza-related pneumonia while holidaying in Japan.

At a recent show in China, she performed her hit track ‘Can I Not Be Brave’, which many believe was a tribute to Barbie. But it wasn't the song that people noticed.

Instead the dark metallic heart-shaped necklace she wore unexpectedly drew public attention, with many netizens speculating that it is a “cremation necklace” containing Barbie's ashes.

The rumour spread quickly online, and was even picked up by Taiwanese media, sparking widespread discussion. Some judged Christine for it, saying the necklace was “meant to be kept as a souvenir, and not worn as a performance piece”.

However, it’s now been revealed that the rumours were completely baseless.

Responding to the online chatter, the Beijing Zaishi Law Firm, representing Christine’s agency, issued an official statement refuting the claims.

The statement declared that the reports seen in the media are “entirely false”. They also criticised media outlets for publishing unverified claims about Christine “wearing a necklace containing Barbie Hsu’s ashes”.

They asserted that the reports had “caused serious damage to Christine’s reputation”.

The lawyer’s letter emphasised that Christine’s necklace has no connection of any kind to human remains, and condemned the rumours as having crossed legal boundaries. The reps also demanded that all individuals and platforms spreading or reposting the false information delete the content, issue public apologies, and compensate for damages, or face legal action.

They stated: “Any behaviour that seeks attention through false information and crosses moral or legal lines will bear consequences. We will continue to monitor developments and take all necessary legal measures to protect our client’s rights.”
