Jerry Yan Visited Barbie Hsu's Grave After Typhoon Podul, And It Was Emotional For Him

While everyone has been raving about F4's recent reunion at Mayday's concert, we know deep down that no reunion is complete without Barbie Hsu — the boys' favourite Shancai. 

But it looks like Dao Ming Si and Shancai have finally met again, albeit heart-wrenchingly. 

Jerry Yan, 48, had reportedly visited Barbie, who played his onscreen lover in Meteor Garden, at her grave at the Chin Pao San Cemetery in New Taipei, Taiwan. 

Barbie passed away on February 3 from influenza-related pneumonia while holidaying in Japan with her family. She was 48.

Jerry was accompanied by Barbie's good pal, Taiwanese star Janet Chia, as well as her husband, Wang Chao-Chieh.

The trio were there a day after Typhoon Podul hit Taiwan, and reportedly stayed for 13 minutes before leaving. 

In a clip circulated online, Jerry was seen first bending forward to take a close look at Barbie's grave. He then stood up to wipe his tears before Janet walked over to comfort him by patting him on the shoulder.

It was also reported that, after the visit, Jerry went to a vegetarian restaurant alone — possibly a tribute to Barbie’s own vegetarian lifestyle — and was sobbing while he was eating. 

According to Janet, they'd arranged to go to the grave together. There, Jerry noticed some tent stakes near the grave.

"When he asked the staff, he found out they were left by 'Oppa'," she revealed, referring to Barbie's husband, DJ Koo aka Koo Jun Yup.

“The cemetery staff said that Oppa often comes to visit Barbie. To shield from the sun, he sets up a tent and leaves the stakes in place. After each visit, he takes the tent down but leaves the stakes so he can use them again next time.”

Janet explained that she and Jerry had stayed in touch over the years and have checked in on each other after Barbie's passing. 

“I knew he was deeply heartbroken,” she said. Jerry has been filming in China but returned to Taiwan during his break to visit Barbie's resting place.

“The wind was strong, but the surroundings were peaceful — with the mountain at our back and the sea before us," she shared.

Janet also recalled often watching clips from Meteor Garden when it first aired. “So I told Barbie: ‘Dao Ming Si came to see you.’”

Together with her husband and Jerry, the three bowed in silence before leaving.

“We all understood each other’s feelings without saying much. We shared the same sorrow and accepted the reality of her passing. We didn’t talk much about it, it was simply a moment to miss Barbie," she said.
