Hordes Of Fans Swarm Hotel in Peru After BTS Concerts For Glimpse Of The K-pop Stars; RM Pleads: “Everyone Is Having Trouble Sleeping”
Some fans need to learn to draw the line between wanting to see their idols and invading their privacy.
Following their recent concerts in Lima, Peru, members of K-pop boyband BTS reportedly found their hotel surrounded by large crowds of fans.
Photos circulating online showed an enormous crowd packed outside the hotel where the seven-member group was staying, although the hotel’s location has not been disclosed by the media.
Reports also described the scene as resembling a major festival, with the situation reportedly spiralling out of control.
Fans allegedly screamed and shouted throughout the day and night, while some extreme sasaeng fans even shone laser lights directly at the windows of rooms on the hotel’s upper floors, disturbing other guests.
Whenever a vehicle suspected of carrying BTS members left the hotel, the crowd would reportedly surge forward in an attempt to block the vehicles, raising serious safety concerns.
The situation eventually prompted the group’s leader, RM, to take to Weverse, a K-pop fan community platform, to express his frustration and exhaustion.
In his post, RM shared that this was his first visit to Peru and that he had been looking forward to the experience with excitement and happiness. However, the crowds gathered outside the hotel had made it difficult for the members and their staff to get the rest they needed.
“As people have been stationed outside our hotel, the members and staff are all exhausted,” he wrote.
“It’s noisy even inside our rooms, and everyone is having trouble sleeping. It’s also causing a great deal of inconvenience to the other guests staying at the same hotel.”
RM stressed that a lack of adequate rest and sleep could also affect the quality of their concert performances.
He then urged fans to refrain from gathering outside the group’s hotel during their upcoming tour stops.
“If you’re ARMY, the best fans in the world, please understand. I believe you guys won’t object to this either. I hope our relationship can be one that’s more mature and respectful,” he wrote.
On Day 2 of their concert in Peru, RM also took the opportunity to address the issue.
"The post I wrote yesterday isn't about Latin America or Peru," he said. "Similar things have happened in Europe, in the United States, and honestly, it's something that's been happening all along. It could happen in Asia too."
While RM also acknowledged fans' efforts to respect their privacy in many occasions, he specifically expressed concern about the use of drones and lasers.
He also stressed that the group does not differentiate their fans based on their nationality or geographical location
“Everyone, honestly, when have we ever divided people by nationality or continent? Under the name ARMY, under the name BTS, we are all the same people,” he said.
Meanwhile, fans could be heard chanting “Sorry” during his speech.
