Taiwanese singer Aska Yang has been spending a lot of time in Taiwan recuperating from a fracture he got from a fall from a 2-meter high stage during a concert in Xining in August.

During his recovery period, the 47-year-old was reportedly elected as the head of management committee of his own building, making him responsible for handling neighbourhood matters.

And that was when all the hoo-ha began.

Following his appointment, residents of his building allegedly complained that Aska’s family are actually “bad neighbours", calling their behaviours "very unethical".

They claimed that Aska has both elderly and young family members, and they've caused quite a few problems in both the front and back of the building.

His neighbours argued that, even as the committee head, Aska is unwilling to lead by example and disregards the community rules, leading residents to feel that he is “unfit for his position.”

Furthermore, it was reported that Aska's family often does not follow rules in the community, insisting on walking directly from the driveway, which raises safety concerns.

They went on to accuse a family member of urinating in public. While residents understand that possible physical limitations resulted in said family member not being able to get home in time to use the toilet, such behaviour still raises hygiene concerns.

Moreover, when residents tried to inform Aska about what happened, the singer allegedly scolded them in return.

According to reports, these issues were originally tolerated silently but erupted after Aska became committee head.

"After Mr Yang was elected, even before his term began, he sent a letter in his personal capacity to the security company demanding termination of the contract, and everyone was stunned!" said one resident.

Although most residents felt that the previous property management was quite good, Aska apparently thought that the security team did not care enough for the elderly.

He reportedly used that as a justification to replace the team without seeking consent from other residents, which eventually sparked public outrage.

During the handover of his position, Aska was said to have had a dispute with the previous committee head.

At one point, the argument escalated, and the singer reportedly threw a tantrum, saying he would not serve as head. Nevertheless, he still accepted the position later on.

Aska has since taken to his Weibo to rubbish his neighbours' allegations.

He first denied that he and his family behaved in the ways his neighbours alleged before reposting a video shared by Kuomintang Taipei City Councillor Cai Shujun.

The councillor claimed that Aska's current controversy started because the previous committee and security team were not awarded a contract, and thus sought revenge against the new president.

She also urged the public to verify facts for fairness.

On top of that, Aska shared screenshots of messages from his neighbours, including one that read: “We all know you have always been a very good neighbour”.

"This community has been bad for too long. He, as a celebrity, risked being attacked and still stepped up. We are really grateful. Most residents here are indifferent and conformist," another conversation read.

The singer then briefly shared his sentiments about the speculations.

"Oppression or stigmatisation should not prevent people from pursuing justice," he wrote.
