The past weekend saw two stage accidents involving major music stars in Asia, raising concerns over stage safety and the well-being of performers.

Taiwanese singer Aska Yang and Kyuhyun of K-pop band Super Junior both suffered painful falls during their respective concerts, leaving audiences shocked and worried.

On August 23, Aska, 46, was performing Jonathan Li’s ‘Over The Hills’ during a concert in Xining in China’s Qinghai province, when he accidentally stepped off the edge of an extended stage platform.

According to reports, he fell nearly two metres, hitting the ground with a loud crash that startled the crowd.

Witnesses reported he struck his head and appeared briefly unconscious. He later struggled to stand due to back pain.

On-site medics fitted him with an oxygen tube before he was rushed to hospital.

Concert organisers later released a statement confirming that Aska had received first aid and was rushed to the hospital for further checks.

Hours later, Aska took to Weibo to reassure fans: “This is Zongwei. I’m fine. Sorry for worrying everyone… I really feel embarrassed.”

He added that his condition was stable and hoped that his mother would not see his name trending online.

Aska also expressed gratitude to the local organisers and medical staff for their swift response and also thanked his team and fans for their concern: “I’ve truly received so much care — real, attentive care. Let’s all take good care of ourselves. Please don’t worry, I’ll be fine.”

Kyuhyun injured during Super Junior's 20th anniversary tour

A day later, Super Junior’s Kyuhyun, 37, sustained a leg injury during the group’s 20th anniversary concert Super Show 10 in Seoul, forcing him to complete the latter part of the performance seated on stage.

Kyuhyun had twisted his ankle while stepping down from the stage, resulting in a pulled muscle.

Fan videos show him limping as his bandmates helped him to his feet.

He reportedly disappeared backstage for around 30 minutes, likely receiving medical treatment.

Despite his obvious discomfort, Kyuhyun returned to finish the show, performing while seated on a chair and leaning on an umbrella for support during the encore.

Fans praised his dedication, saying he is “too professional to the point of heartbreaking.”
