Wife of Benz Hui Doubles Down on Criticism of S’pore Actor Collin Chee for “Overly Detailed” Reporting of Private Funeral
Calling his actions “inappropriate”, Angeli Lung said she was “truly heartbroken” after Collin revealed private moments including a family eulogy, to the media.
The Singaporean wife of late Hong Kong actor Benz Hui, who passed away on October 28 from cancer-related organ failure, has spoken publicly for the first time about his final days and her anger over a breach of their family’s privacy.
In an interview with veteran local journo Chen Yunhong aka Hong Gu, Angeli Lung revealed that Benz’s death came abruptly and he left no final words. Benz was a Singapore PR and Angeli and their daughter are in Singapore to settle some stuff.
“He didn’t leave any last words because he never imagined he would go so quickly!” she said tearfully.
“My whole mind was blank. It felt like everything had been completely hollowed out. I was totally stunned.”
Their daughter Charmaine also echoed her pain, saying she still struggles to accept her father’s passing and often finds herself subconsciously leaving an empty spot for him when taking photos.
Benz was diagnosed with kidney cancer in September 2024 and underwent surgery to remove the tumour.
His initial recovery appeared promising, and he kept to his medication and follow-ups as scheduled.
However, in mid-October this year, he felt unwell and tests revealed that the cancer had already spread to his lungs.
He also developed a bacterial infection, eventually leading to multi-organ failure. After two days in critical condition, he passed away.
Angeli said that during his final days, dozens of friends from the entertainment circle rushed over to see him, with some staying until midnight — a testament to the strong friendships he had built.
While still mourning their loss, mother and daughter expressed deep disappointment that details of Benz’s private funeral service were leaked.
Singapore actor Collin Chee had spoken to local Chinese media outlets Lianhe Zaobao and Shin Min Daily News sharing information such as TVB’s tribute video of Benz’s roles and the attendance of various celebrities.
“The funeral host had already announced before the service began that no photos or recordings were allowed, and that nothing should be shared. How could he not know? I never imagined Collin Chee would reveal things from the memorial to the public!” said Angeli.
She criticised his actions as “inappropriate”, adding: “We treated him very well. How could he leak what happened at the memorial? He hurt me deeply. I’m truly heartbroken.”
Charmaine, who had earlier called Collin out on Instagram, also condemned him for disclosing details from the eulogy written by her half-brother, calling the act disrespectful.
“A memorial eulogy reflects the relationship and emotions between the deceased and the family. It’s a deeply personal expression. How can something like that be made public?” she said.
Angeli added that many of Benz’s artiste friends who spoke to the media kept their comments strictly about their friendship or work, “only Collin Chee provided overly detailed reporting”.
Collin has since apologised to the Hui family.
Angeli and Collin were previously colleagues at Television Corporation of Singapore (TCS), now Mediacorp, and he shared a close friendship with Benz. He was one of the emcees at Charmaine’s wedding banquet in Singapore.
