Sonia Chew May Be Chill About Her Wedding Dress Design, But She Does Have One Very Practical Concern

The wedding dress is often the most important thing for most brides. But if there's one bride who's so chill about her wedding dress, it's 987 DJ Sonia Chew.

The 34-year-old will have a dress for the church wedding and another for the evening reception and "they are being made right now as we speak", she revealed in a YouTube episode of Countdown “I Do”. 

“In fact, we are less than a month to the actual day… I still don’t know what it looks like,” she says.

So far, she has only tried the base structure of the dress, designed by bridal dressmaker Michelle Huimin, with the final details still under wraps. 

Even her fiancé, Jeremy Sng, 48, hasn’t seen the completed version, though he did get a glimpse of early mood boards during the conceptual stage.

His verdict?

“Looks a little bit like a … white fungus,” he says quietly.

Sonia’s jaw dropped before she laughed it off: “Yes, I’m marrying the right person.”

While some brides would be fretting over the wedding dress down to the smallest details, Sonia left it pretty much up to the designer.

“I just told [Michelle] like something that is elegant, classy, not too revealing, because you know, church still has to be a little bit more conservative,” she says. “But she is still trying to add a few elements that reminded her of me.”

Her friends, however, were slightly more sceptical.

“My friends think I’m crazy, actually. They were like, 'What do u mean you didn’t send any actual references?' I was like, 'I really didn’t',” she says.

Interestingly, Sonia also revealed she has never had a dream wedding gown, something she admits is an unpopular opinion.

“I feel like your style changes at every phase of your life. So, what I thought might have been cool back then, probably isn’t what I like now, to be honest, and I decided to leave it to the designer. Because I think she knows me best,” Sonia explains.

However, Sonia does have one very practical concern, one that many brides will relate to.

Given the expected size of the gown, she joked she could hide an entire person inside it, or even her pet dog, Maxi.

Sounds great for an entrance, but less so for mobility.

“The only thing I was worried about was like, how am I going to pee, if it is a really big dress?” she laughs.
