"Men Have No Sense Of Hygiene": Netizen Calls Out Toilet Habits Of S'pore Men
Ever come across someone so particular about hygiene that they take to the internet to rant about other people’s habits?
One Singaporean netizen did exactly that in a Reddit post bluntly titled: “Men have no sense of hygiene.”
The OP wrote: “When I use public washrooms in malls, I always wash my hands with soap [regardless of whether I do a number one or number two].”
Clarifying that he isn’t lurking while others do their business, he added: “However I do notice when you are right beside me washing your hands and not using soap.”
“I don’t know if Singaporean women have this issue, but guys… for goodness’ sake wash your freaking hands would you? Would a few drops of soap and water kill you?” he ranted.
According to the OP, rinsing with water alone simply doesn’t cut it. He said he’s seen people eat with hands “washed” using only water, stressing that water doesn’t kill germs — meaning viruses like Covid can still spread.
And in his view, the worst offenders are those who skip soap after doing number two.
“If you want to fall really sick [because of] your lack of hygiene, that really is your problem. But it's also your fault if you touch everything and make other people fall sick,” he declared, before questioning whether “women do not wash their hands like men”.
To answer that (our credentials being, well, women): we’d like to believe most women do wash their hands properly. But honestly, poor hygiene isn’t really a gendered issue, is it?
Turns out, the OP isn’t alone in noticing this.
“I saw my caifan stall guy walk out the toilet without washing his hands. I hope that he’s washing it at the sink in the stall,” one netizen shared.
Another echoed: “Noticed the same as you. Worse still, a lot of these men I noticed not washing hands with soap happen to be F&B workers.”
That said, some commenters pushed back, arguing that water alone is enough if they’ve only done a number one.
“I am not putting any unfamiliar liquid on my hands if not needed to. Also, most public toilet soap dispensers look disgusting,” one netizen opined, while another claimed that washing hands too often with soap is “bad for skin”.
Then came the logistical complaints.
“The water pressure [in public washrooms] is so weak. Also automatic taps do not work for me,” another wrote. It’s giving… excuses?
TL;DR: poor hygiene isn’t just a “men” thing — but everyone really should be washing their hands properly after using the toilet.
