Ong Ye Kung Is Now A LOVE 972 Guest DJ; Health Minister Even Has His Own Staff Pass & Office Locker

Yes, you read that right – Ong Ye Kung Is LOVE 972’s latest DJ. And he has his own staff pass and locker in the office to boot.
The 55-year-old Minister for Health has joined The Breakfast Quartet’s Mark Lee, Marcus Chin, Dennis Chew, and Chen Biyu.
He will be on air every Friday from 9am to 10am until April 18.
It seems like the Minister is relishing his new (part-time) role, judging from a video on LOVE97's Instagram. He looked like he was brimming with excitement as he entered LOVE 972’s studio on his first day, and was proudly showing off his flashy new Mediacorp staff pass.
Now, before you think the LOVE 972 regular jocks would give him an easy time, think again.
He was seen bantering with Mark Lee and even asking the comedian: “Are you the encik here?”
Encik is an informal term of address used for warrant officers in the Singapore Army.
To which a witty Mark dryly replied: “I'm already an 'old bird'.”
Mark was also seen telling someone to allow their new colleague to unpack his own headphones saying: “Let him do, it's his job. Now he is DJ”.
Mark, you really never give face?
In fact, Mark kept a straight face as he introduced on air to listeners the station's latest "hire" as "our new intern". Off air, he even joked: “He never takes pay, he's an intern.”
To which Mr Ong replied in Hokkien: “No pay one”.
This "new intern" seems to be taking his side hustle quite seriously and even requested for his own locker in the office to store his things.
Other than his mug, he also keeps a change of clothes for when he comes in on Friday and when he needs to go back to his day job as Minister of Health.
The dude sure knows how to stay comfy for an “intern”.
So how did the minister do on his first day?
Fellow The Breakfast Quartet host Dennis Chew told 8days.sg that Mr Ong had always kept his promise to come on the show annually.
”We jokingly said people will be happy if he can come for a month as a DJ and not as a minister,” he said.
According to Dennis, the minister said yes on air after looking at his schedule.
”It was an immediate response so it shocked everyone,” said Dennis.
Dennis also tells us that there was no rehearsal prior to his appearance.
”Everything you hear is very organic. Personally I feel it’s a bit unfair for him because we didn’t even tell or teach him how to read traffic news and the weather report,” said Dennis.
”He nailed it with style,” he added.
Dennis also revealed that Mark gor’s “no face” tirade was just for entertainment purpose: “They talk like they are buddies from their kampung when they are not on air.”
Phew!
