New Fully-Mirrored Dance Space Opens At Marina South Pier MRT Station, Now That Bayfront MRT Mirrors Have Been Frosted
Netizens are now praising SMRT for saving the dance scene in Singapore.
When dancers who regularly practised their footwork at the full-length mirrors at Bayfront MRT station’s linkway found the mirrors were frosted at the start of the year, many voiced their dismay online.
In response to media queries then, a Marina Bay Sands spokesperson explained that the mirrors were frosted following public feedback about pedestrian congestion and obstruction along the walkway.
While the debate over shared public spaces raged online, SMRT appears to have taken a more dancer-friendly approach instead of chasing anyone away.
In a TikTok video posted on Thursday (January 15), they unveiled an open area fitted with full-length mirrors where dancers can practise freely.
The best part? It’s just two stops away at Marina South Pier station and completely free to use.
This move by SMRT was welcome by netizens — the clip has since racked up more than 48K views, and many praised the transport operator for supporting local creatives.
“Great idea considering Marina South Pier is usually pretty empty, brings life to the station!” one said.
Others also urged SMRT to roll out similar mirror-equipped spaces at other stations.
