Former Mr World S’pore Jailed 7 Weeks for 2nd Drink Driving Conviction
He had a prior record for a similar offence in 2015.
Hu Hanxiong, who won the Mr Singapore World title in 2010, has once again been convicted for drink driving.
The 40-year-old pleaded guilty on Jan 12 to one charge of drink driving. He was sentenced to seven weeks’ jail, fined S$14,000, and banned from driving for nine years.
This is his second drink-driving conviction. He had a prior record for a similar offence in 2015.
Court documents stated that Hanxiong had been drinking at a lounge at Peace Centre on the night of Aug 19, 2022.
At around 11.55pm, he decided to move his vehicle along Sophia Road, claiming he “did not want to obstruct traffic”. While reversing, he collided with a truck behind him.
Traffic police who arrived at the scene conducted a breathalyser test, which showed a reading of 94 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of breath, almost three times the legal limit of 35 mg.
In court, the prosecutor described Hanxiong as a “repeat offender” and sought a jail term of three to four months.
The defence argued that he had only moved the car a short distance and had cooperated with investigations, and asked for leniency.
He was allowed to defer the start of his jail sentence until Jan 16.
Separately, Hanxiong had been previously jailed for three months for causing hurt to a taxi driver in a rash act while under the influence of alcohol.
