Juin Teh Reveals Her Parents Eloped To JB; Dad Worked In S'pore To Put Mum Through School
It was Father's Day yesterday (Jun 21), and naturally, Instagram was filled with heartfelt tributes to dads around the world.
But few were as romantic as the one shared by Malaysian actress Juin Teh.
Sharing a series of photos, the 36-year-old Mediacorp actress jokingly described her dad as the person "with the least presence at home", recalling how he spent most of her childhood commuting between Johor Bahru and Singapore for work.
"Every day, he commuted between Johor Bahru and Singapore for work. To earn more money, he worked the night shift," she shared.
Their schedules rarely aligned.
Juin recalled that when she woke up, her father had just gone to sleep, and by the time she returned from school, he was already heading out the door.
"So in my memories, he was often absent. But he was the one who carried our family on his shoulders."
She then shared the romantic story behind her parents' relationship.
According to the actress, both her parents came from poor families and met when they were teenagers.
Her mother had hoped to continue her studies after secondary school, but her family could neither afford the fees nor support her decision.
That's when her father stepped in.
"My dad eloped with her to Johor Bahru. He arranged for her to stay with relatives there while he worked in Singapore to support her education.
"Because of him, my mum was able to fulfil her dream of studying."
As her family's circumstances gradually improved, some people credited her mum for their success.
"But we all know that many of the important decisions were possible because my dad supported them from behind the scenes," she explained.
One of those decisions, Juin added, was allowing her to pursue her studies in Taiwan.
"Thank you, Dad, for letting me grow into the free-spirited daughter I am today. Happy Father's Day, Dad. Wishing you good health, safety, happiness, and joy always," she wrote.
She ended the post on a light-hearted note, revealing that her mother once told her she had two suitors when she was younger, one wealthy and one handsome.
"So which one do you think was my dad?" she joked.
