Johor Petrol Station Looking For SG-Registered Lexus That Drove Off Without Paying For Petrol
The Caltex station in Skudai is appealing for the Singapore driver to return and settle an unpaid bill.
First, it was a driver of a Singapore-registered car was publicly shamed for allegedly refuelling with heavily subsidised RON95 petrol in Malaysia earlier this month.
Now, another Singapore-registered car is embroiled in Malaysia petrol shenanigans again.
This time, a petrol station in Johor is looking for a man and woman travelling in a Singapore-registered Lexus SUV who drove off without paying after refuelling.
According to the petrol station operator, the vehicle left the premises before payment was made, prompting them to take the matter online in hopes of tracking down the driver.
If the payment is not settled, both the staff member involved and the company may have to absorb the loss.
In an interview with China Press, a female staff member said the male driver had requested a full tank of RON97 petrol.
As per station procedure, payment was not collected upfront.
In total, the Lexus pumped over 45 litres of RON97 petrol, amounting to RM139.01 (approximately S$44.40).
While the car was being refuelled, the woman in the vehicle reportedly entered the convenience store to shop.
After completing her purchase, she returned to the SUV, and the driver drove off almost immediately.
“Our outdoor staff were busy at the time, so we only realised later that the vehicle had left without paying,” she said.
“We tried to chase after them, but failed. Other motorists also honked to alert the driver, but the car did not stop,” the staff added.
The incident occurred on Jan 21 at around 9pm at a Caltex petrol station located at a highway rest stop in the Skudai area in Johor.
The petrol station took to social media to look for the driver of the car, and reportedly gave the driver a 48-hour grace period to return and settle the bill. Failing that, a police report will be lodged. It’s not known if the petrol station has made a report yet.
“We hope netizens can help remind the driver to return to the petrol station as soon as possible to pay the outstanding amount,” said the operator.
