Jack Neo Thinks Richie Koh Has A “Very High Chance” Of Winning Best Actor At The Golden Horse Awards

The 62nd Golden Horse Awards will be held today (Nov 22) at the Taipei Music Center, and all eyes are on Singapore’s own Richie Koh, who’s been nominated for Best Leading Actor for his powerful performance as a drag queen in A Good Child.

When 8world asked local director Jack Neo about the 32-year-old Mediacorp actor's chances of taking home a trophy, his reply came without hesitation: “I think his chances are very high! Although [all the nominees] in the Best Actor category are very impressive, his brilliant performance in A Good Child is undeniable.”

Jack, who directed Richie in 2020's The Diam Diam Era, said he saw the actor’s potential early on.

“I recognised Richie’s potential very early on, which is why I cast him as a lead in The Diam Diam Era. His performance there cemented my belief that his future as an actor is boundless,” he said.

“He has both the looks and the skills, and his role as a drag performer in A Good Child perfectly captured the essence of the character.”

Jack said he is acquainted with many drag performers, and that he is very familiar with their mannerisms. According to him, Richie nailed those subtle details.

He also praised Richie’s ability to make his performance feel authentic and natural.

“I know that’s not Richie. That’s him acting. What’s remarkable is that even though he’s acting, he makes it feel very natural and effortless. That’s his strength,” added Jack.

And regardless of the results at tonight’s ceremony, Jack made it clear that he’s eager to work with Richie again.

“I would like to work with him again. In Singapore now, it’s rare to find an actor whom everyone wants to cast. No matter the outcome tomorrow, one thing is for certain — he will have many more film offers coming his way.”
