Some may say Singapore's icons are Gardens by the Bay or the Merlion.
For John Paul Penuliar, 30, it's Ya Kun Kaya Toast.
In fact, the Filipino man who's been working in Singapore for three years loves the local coffee chain so much, he decided to get a tattoo of the Ya Kun logo on his arm.
The chemical engineer at Procter & Gamble is heading back to the Philippines this month, but not before showing his fresh ink to his colleagues, and shared their reactions in a now-viral Instagram video.
Of course, most of them were in disbelief or in shock.
One colleague even tried to rub it off, insisting it was temporary. No such luck, peeps. It is the real deal.
8days.sg reached out to John, who told us he initially toyed with the idea of having chicken rice or even the Merlion tattooed, but he finally settled on the Ya Kun logo.
“I really go to Ya Kun about thrice a week. It can be for breakfast, a coffee break, or even lunch. And that includes weekend,” he mused.
However, John tells 8days.sg he hasn’t flashed his tattoo for a free kopi… yet.
“But the auntie at Ya Kun Metropolis gave me a treat when we told her it was my last day in office,” he said.
When asked what his family would back in Philippines think about it, John admits they would “probably think I’m crazy”.
“But now that I think about it, my folks will just see it as some nice Chinese characters,” John added.
