Long Post About Universal Studios Singapore's Rides & Amenities Goes Viral; Netizens Debate If USS Is Losing Its Magic
After a Redditor’s long rant on USS’s amenities, many Singaporeans weighed in with their own experiences as well.
Singapore's most famous theme park, Universal Studios Singapore (USS), might have just wrapped up another successful run of their annual Halloween Horror Nights (HHN) and hosted the cast of Wicked at its Singapore premiere, but not everyone's a fan it seems.
A Redditor, who claims they used to be a frequent visitor of USS, recently made a lengthy post detailing how the theme park has fallen short of their expectations.
"I enjoy the rides and vibes of USS, the parades, shows and celebrations that they put on. I feel like the park quality has declined very significantly over the years, especially since a ticket costs a whopping $83 now," they wrote. The OP, however, did add a disclaimer that their post was based on their own experience, and "some things may be inaccurate".
They lamented about certain elements of the rides and how they used to have little to no issues, and were typically fixed fast so guests could have the best experience. According to them, the Battlestar Galactica attraction, which features two duelling rollercoasters Human and Cylon, are now launched separately, defeating the purpose of a "duelling ride".
They also brought up other issues, like the lack of the unique fire feature in Revenge of the Mummy, and how a few dinosaur animatronics "have been stationary for some time" at Rapids Adventure. They recalled water sprayers being broken and timed wrongly, and the issues "have been present for some time and haven't been fixed".
They added that the Puss in Boots and Shrek 4D attractions are missing storytelling elements and special effects — an essential part to their appeal.
"Waterworld might as well be indefinitely suspended at this point. Since earlier this year, it has been closed except as a queueing area during HHN. I asked the staff for any planned opening dates or its progress and all just said it won't be open for some time to come," they continued.
But a few others shared that they have managed to catch some of the attractions that the OP said had been closed.
"I can confirm that some of the 'missing' features are actually there sometimes (e.g. fire in Revenge of The Mummy, storytelling in Puss in Boots)," wrote a Redditor, who says they're a season pass holder reveals they visit the park twice a month, wrote. "I cannot see a pattern when these are 'on' since it's always Saturday when I go. But I also don't know why these features are being turned off most of the time."
That's not to say that the theme park has not seen any positive changes at all. Earlier this year, they launched Minion Land, a new themed zone that replaced the former Madagascar area. The park also saw scheduled maintenance closures for several attractions like Battlestar Galactica, Sesame Street, and Enchanted Airways in 2024.
On top of all those complaints, the OP also found issues with the park's water coolers and how the "water pressure is basically nonexistent", resulting in long queues.
"Comparing the park to its Japanese counterparts like USJ, DisneySea etc, it really upsets me on how the park can charge so much and yet continue to worsen the guest experience year after year while trying to gouge a giant hole in our wallet," they penned.
Other Redditors who joined the conversation had their own takes on the condition of USS.
"I go every couple of years during HHN and yeah a little sad to see the quality of the park drop. The chipping paint on the walls and lack of theming elements too. It's all just photo ops," opined one netizen. Others shared how they were disappointed to find out some rides were closed or down for maintenance during their visit.
Some also added the OP was "very meticulous" about their review, with one even joking they "should be paid for their quality analysis".
