Edwin Goh & Rachel Wan Used Google Translate To Buy A Lazy Susan On Taobao & The Result Is Hilarious

For anyone who isn’t fluent in Mandarin, navigating the Chinese shopping platform Taobao can feel intimidating.
But it seems local actors Edwin Goh, 31, and Rachel Wan, 28, found a creative way to get around it... Somewhat.
In an episode of Kaypoh Room Tours, the couple gave YES 933 DJ Hazelle Teo a tour of their 700 sq ft two-bedroom condo, a minimalist mix of white, brown, and grey tones.
While showing Hazelle their cosy kitchen, Edwin recalled a shopping mishap that had everyone in stitches.
“You know when we were trying to buy a lazy susan from Taobao, right? She got to translate what a lazy Susan is, so she went to Google Translate, and she put in ‘lazy Susan’…” trailed Edwin.
Before he could finish, Hazelle jumped in.
“Let me guess, lan duo de su shan (a literal Mandarin translation of lazy Susan) right?” and the trio broke out into laughter.
Cute. Absolutely. Correct? Not even close.
For the record, the proper term for a lazy Susan in Mandarin is can zhuo zhuan pan, which in English translates to 'revolving tray on table'.
Don’t worry, Rachel! We’ve all been there.
Also, did you know that Taobao has an English interface? You are welcome!
Other than that hilarious moment, the couple melted our hearts by sharing about their love for crocheting.
While Hazelle assumed that Rachel reportedly taught Edwin, the truth was even sweeter.
“Actually, this is a huge misconception. People always think that I taught him. But actually, he learnt it in secret to surprise me,” she gushed.
"She's been crocheting since she was nine years old. I know if I surprised her with something that's close to her heart, it would get me a lot of brownie points," said Edwin.
"I like things with meanings, but one thing I did not expect was to really fall in love with the craft and how meditative crocheting is. It really gave me time to sit down with my thoughts and be more zen,” he added.
