Imagine returning home from overseas only to find one of your most cherished belongings gone.

That’s exactly what happened to this one unfortunate guy from Penang, Malaysia.

Sharing his story anonymously online, the man wrote: “We have an old Perodua Myvi at home. Although it’s over a decade old, it’s a memento from my parents. I still drive it occasionally and maintain it well. To me, it’s more than just a means of transportation. It’s also a memory.”

Upon returning home from a business trip, he found that his car had disappeared. When he asked his girlfriend about it, she nonchalantly replied she sold it. She brought up the fact that he owns another car, a Proton Saga, and added that the Myvi “was just left there anyway”.

“The car wasn’t even in her name,” wrote the man, who in that moment, froze in shock.

He later found out his girlfriend had sold the car in order to buy a Chanel bag.

She had let go of the car to a buyer who agreed to take over the remaining loan payments to the Myvi, and since she received the payment in cash, she was able to buy the bag she wanted without waiting for a dealer to process the sale.

Apparently, his girlfriend felt the need to have a Chanel bag as she had recently started hanging out with a new group of friends who enjoyed high-end lifestyles. She believed owning a luxury-brand bag would help her fit in.

Her pals owned Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Dior bags, and according to her, even the "cheapest bag" they carried around was a Miu Miu.

The man recounted: “She said that without a designer bag, going to a cafe [with her friends] would make her look like a ‘country bumpkin’. She told me ‘I would rather you not have the Myvi than I not have a Chanel’.”

As if the entire situation was not ridiculous enough, the story didn't just end there.

The man went on to reveal the money that came from selling his car was not enough to cover his girlfriend’s new Chanel. As such, she demanded he pay the remaining amount.

She also told him: “Think about it, if I embarrass myself in front of my friends, wouldn’t I be embarrassing you too? You can drive a [lousy] car like your Saga around, at least give me something so I can hold my head up high.”

The real kicker? After getting her hands on the bag she wanted so badly, the girlfriend flaunted it on social media, along with the caption ‘work hard and become a queen’. Huh?

“[It was] as if she’d bought it herself,” wrote the man, who added he’s now wondering if his girlfriend is simply taking advantage of him in their relationship. He's also now afraid of "what else she would sell in the future".

Um, food for thought?
