Woman, 47, Goes To Hospital With Abdominal Pain, Finds Out She's Pregnant & Gives Birth An Hour Later
Talk about the surprise of a lifetime.
A 47-year-old woman from Hubei, China, went to hospital with abdominal pain, only to discover she was pregnant— and already in labour.
Her 26-year-old daughter, Wei, shared the story on social media, saying the family had rushed her mum to hospital fearing she might have a serious medical condition.
Instead, doctors discovered she was pregnant and in the early stages of labour.
About an hour later, she gave birth to a healthy baby girl, leaving the entire family stunned.
Wei, who also has a 21-year-old brother, described finding out she suddenly had a baby sister as a mix of “shock, surprise and amazement”.
According to Wei, her mother's abdomen had not grown noticeably during the pregnancy. The family simply assumed she had gained weight, while the baby's movements were apparently so subtle that even her mum didn't suspect she was pregnant.
In short, nobody saw this baby coming.
The woman may have experienced a cryptic pregnancy, where typical pregnancy symptoms can go unnoticed or be mistaken for something else.
Wei said the family had initially braced themselves for the possibility that her mother might need surgery for a serious illness. So when doctors told them she was actually having contractions, her parents found it “unbelievable.”
As she had been unaware of the pregnancy, the woman had not made any pregnancy-related dietary or nutritional adjustments. Wei said her mum developed severe anaemia and malnutrition after giving birth.
Fortunately, she is now recovering, while her newborn daughter is reportedly healthy and doing well.
