Friend Of Paralysed Taiwanese Host Claims His Condition Is Linked To Frequent Chiropractic Treatments
It is also reported that, 13 years after leaving showbiz due to the incident, Zhang Shanwei’s condition has improved.
Back in 2013, Taiwanese actor-host Zhang Shanwei suddenly stepped away from showbiz after a spinal hematoma compressed his nerves and left him paralysed.
While Shanwei has remained out of the spotlight since then, his showbiz pal, Ryan Sung, recently gave a rare update on the 50-year-old’s current condition.
"We were informed back then about his situation very suddenly and what we know is that he had undergone regular chiropractic treatments which caused his blood vessels at the back to rupture," divulged Ryan.
"He didn't know [about the rupture]. It compressed his spinal nerves and paralysed him," he added.
Ryan shared that he and some other friends did try to contact Shanwei after knowing about his condition but did not manage to reach him.
"His assistant said that Shanwei is quite image conscious. That's something we were all aware of. He did not want us to see him while he was unwell and preferred to be remembered at his best."
It is also why Shanwei refused any visits from his friends.
Ryan, however, said he had heard from a fan of Shanwei’s that his condition has improved.
"The fan is a granny who is very close to him and knows where he stays. She visits him quite often, though he has not allowed her to see him since he fell ill,” he shared.
"[Shanwei's] parents told this granny that he's gotten better and wants everyone to not worry about him. He also hopes that everyone can stay happy," added Ryan.
