Influencer Tried Sharing About Cambodia Scam Experience But Livestream Gets Cut Abruptly, Account Banned The Next Day
She claims the woman who scammed her has still not been caught.
A 20-year-old Chinese influencer who was previously found injured and wandering the streets of Cambodia has once again sparked online concern.
Her attempt to share her story on livestream was abruptly cut short.
Surnamed Wu, and known online as Umi, the influencer had earlier made headlines after she was reportedly discovered in Cambodia in a distressed state, with both legs fractured. She returned to China safely in January.
She recently started a livestream to share her story publicly, but was met with roadblocks.
According to news site, The Mirror, Umi went on a livestream on April 3, titled “Cambodia Turmoil Story”.
For reasons unknown, her connection was reportedly unstable and the stream was abruptly terminated 30 minutes later.
When viewers asked about her time in Cambodia, her responses were consistently vague. “I’ll talk about it later,” she would say, occasionally adding that she “really regretted it.”
Despite the sudden cutoff, viewers who caught the stream managed to piece together key details, though they have not been independently verified.
Umi claimed she had been lured overseas by a female acquaintance with promises of a high-paying job.
But upon arriving in Cambodia, she alleged that her passport was confiscated and her movements restricted, a scenario that has become increasingly associated with cross-border scam operations.
She also said she was made to carry out “keyboard work”, a term widely used online to describe scam-related activities.
“I was deceived by that woman, and she still hasn’t been caught,” Umi said during the livestream.
If the abrupt ending of the livestream raised questions, what happened next only deepened the mystery. The following day, Umi’s Douyin accounts were suspended, effectively cutting off her ability to communicate with her audience on the platform.
