This Five-Year-Old Shiba Inu Is Serving As A Police Public Relations Officer In Japan
In Japan, a lovable pup is doing his part to keep the community safe while winning hearts wherever he goes.
Mamesuke is a five-year-old Shiba Inu who serves as the public relations dog for Yokkaichi Minami Police Station in Mie Prefecture. Known for his gentle nature and friendly demeanor, he has become a beloved icon among local residents while helping to spread awareness about traffic safety and crime prevention.
Mamesuke first began spending time at the Oyamada police box in April 2023 alongside his owner, Keigo Saito, who heads the neighbourhood police box.
Saito initially brought Mamesuke to work for companionship while carrying out his duties away from home. The dog's friendly and approachable personality quickly made him popular among residents and children, with many stopping by just to see him.
Soon, Mamesuke became a regular participant in local safety campaigns.
As the station's public relations dog, Mamesuke joins school route patrols, promotes traffic safety and even appears in scam-prevention awareness videos.
According to Japanese media, Mamesuke has also accompanied Saito to intersections to help watch over children's safety and spread crime-prevention messages. He has also starred in public awareness slogans, which include the playful phrase "Don't get into accidents, wan", which is a pun on the Japanese sound for a dog's bark.
Mamesuke’s charm and growing popularity has helped bring the local community closer to the police. According to Saito, residents often stop by the police box just to meet the friendly Shiba Inu, describing him as not only a companion in life but also a trusted partner at work.
The pup was recently reappointed for another year, with Saito receiving an appointment certificate on his behalf from the station chief, ensuring he will continue spreading safety messages while brightening the days of residents in Yokkaichi.
