This Mexican Referee Is Known As The "World Cup Version Of Jolin Tsai”
As the 2026 World Cup action heats up, it's not only the players who are catching people’s attention.
Mexican referee Katia García has gone viral among Asian football fans after many pointed out her striking resemblance to Mandopop star Jolin Tsai.
During the Group F match between the Netherlands and Tunisia, netizens couldn't help but notice that the 33-year-old official’s big expressive eyes, defined features and overall demeanour, with many saying she could easily pass for the Taiwanese singer's doppelganger.
The comparisons quickly flooded social media, with one fan writing: "Once you see it, you can't unsee it."
Another joked: "I thought Jolin Tsai had become a World Cup referee."
Others dubbed Katia the "World Cup version of Jolin Tsai", while some even said the pair look "like twins".
Beyond her celebrity lookalike status, Katia has an impressive resume of her own.
She has a degree in political science, with a minor in law, and began her career as a football referee in 2015.
Her rise through the ranks wasn't without challenges. In the male-dominated sport, Katia reportedly faced sexism early in her career, but she persevered, earning her FIFA referee badge in 2019.
Since then, she has officiated at major tournaments including the U20 World Cup, the Paris Olympics and now the 2026 World Cup.
She has also made history as the third woman ever to referee a men's World Cup match, and the first Mexican official to achieve the feat.
