It seems a recent medical emergency on board a Hong Kong Express flight from Hong Kong to Fukuoka has accidentally unearthed the Internet’s newest collective crush.
A middle-aged passenger had suffered a seizure and lost consciousness during the flight when a doctor stepped in to assist. The man ultimately regained consciousness.
Something else that people noticed during the nerve-wracking incident was the doctor who came forward to help.
According to eyewitnesses, he was tall and possessed “movie-star” looks after he reportedly stood up and identified himself as a doctor.
After clips of the doctor went viral online, netizens immediately launched a full-scale online investigation into his identity.
Introducing Doctor Ryan Cheung, a 31-year-old ICU doctor based in Hong Kong.
According to his Instagram, Ryan isn’t just a doctor.
He is also an independent singer, and a fitness enthusiast who recently hopped onto the Hyrox trend, even scoring a podium finish in one of his Hong Kong races. He came in third for the Men's Open.
According to a previous interview with TOPick, Ryan graduated in 2018, and has worked across emergency medicine, anaesthesiology, cardiology, and intensive care, and has worked shifts lasting up to 34 consecutive hours.
Ryan also shared how things beceme harder during the pandemic.
It was also during this time that Ryan went through a breakup with his girlfriend of nine years, where it felt like his world was turned upside down.
In the interview, he also admitted he felt lost watching peers progress in their careers while he struggled to figure out his own direction.
Encouraged by friends, Ryan decided to take six months of unpaid leave in 2023 to pursue music.
“I thought this was crazy, but if I don’t do it now, I’ll never get the chance,” he said in the interview.
