‘80s Cat III Star Amy Yip, 57, No Longer Wants To Be A Sex Symbol
No more sexy roles for the cinematic icon, who is not opposed to acting onscreen again.
'80s Category III screen goddess, Amy Yip, is largely recognised as one of the biggest sex symbols of her time.
She faded out of showbiz in the mid ‘90s, and has kept a low profile up until recently. She has also hinted at making a possible comeback.
On Wednesday (Dec 13), Amy, 57, was seen at a wine tasting event alongside other celebs, including ‘80s actor, Chin Siu Ho. There, she was quizzed by Hong Kong media about her interest in acting again.
She said she has been asked the same question many times, and though she has received many acting offers, hasn’t seen a script or role she likes.
“I’m not against making a comeback, but I will only act if I find a suitable script. I’ve rejected those that want me to play sexy roles again. I won’t do something that I don’t like,” said Amy.
She continued: “It has to be different from what I used to do in the past, there needs to be room for me to express myself creatively, and the plot is very important.”
She is also unopposed to exploring other opportunities aside from acting.
A video of her singing at a recent party was shared online, and she was praised by many for her impressive pipes.
“I think it would be nice to sing too. I feel like I don’t have to stick to acting in movies. Sometimes I’ll sing, other times, I’ll appear in advertisements and also TV dramas. I actually enjoy doing them all," she said.
When asked about those recent viral photos that had people calling her too skinny”, Amy said: “I’m used to it. People are strange. There was a period I put on weight and they said I looked like a fat auntie. When I’m skinny they say I look like a bag of bones. [The comments] are contradictory, so I don’t bother about what others say/ I’m happy being myself.”
