All Cravings Point East: 4 Food Stops To Try At Eastpoint Mall
Singapore-style mala with crispy potato slices, Taiwanese comfort food, halal cafe favourites and freshly baked chestnuts — this Simei mall has something for every appetite.
Getting a group of makan kakis to agree on what to eat can feel like a small diplomatic exercise. One person wants mala, another is craving Taiwanese food, someone needs halal options, and there is always that friend who says they are “not hungry” before helping themselves to half your snacks.
Thankfully, Eastpoint Mall makes the decision considerably easier. Located beside Simei MRT, the heartland hangout has enough variety to settle very different cravings under one roof. Come hungry and make a mini makan trail out of these four stops.
Mala, but make it Singaporean
If your mala order is usually equal parts spice and chaos, A Hot Hideout’s build-your-own bowls will feel right at home. The homegrown chain calls its take “the Singaporean kind of mala” — less an imitation of Sichuan mala and more a version created for local palates.
Start with the signature Mala Collagen Soup, made with a creamy broth simmered for over 12 hours and intended to be sipped, or go dry with the Mala Stir Fry tossed in house-made sauce. Dining with someone who cannot take the heat? The Collagen Soup, Tomato Collagen Soup and Oriental Stir Fry are non-spicy alternatives, so nobody has to sit there looking brave while quietly suffering.
Then comes the fun part: choosing from more than 70 ingredients. The must-adds are the silky scrambled eggs and thin, deep-fried potato slices: one brings buttery softness; the other, a satisfying crunch. Lotus root and cheese otah are also available for diners who believe texture is as important as heat.

A quick detour to Taiwan
When the craving calls for something warm, saucy and comforting, Xi Men Jie delivers the Taiwanese classics. The home-grown brand has been serving Taiwanese food in Singapore since 2005, with familiar favourites that work just as well for a quick solo lunch as they do for a casual family meal.
The obvious place to start is the Braised Pork Rice, one of the brand’s longstanding signatures.
Prefer something slurpable? Go for Oyster Mee Sua, or try the Crispy Chicken Cutlet Egg Fried Rice when you want a meal with a little more heft.
Choose between chicken floss, luncheon meat, ham or prawns as a topping for your pipping hot cheese onion egg pancake.
Round things out with Taiwanese small bites such as crispy chicken cubes or a cheese onion egg pancake. And yes, there is bubble tea. Because a trip to “Taiwan” without boba would be incomplete.

Halal cafe comforts for everyone
For the friend group that wants a proper sit-down meal without agreeing on a single cuisine, The Tree Cafe is an easy middle ground. The halal-certified, self-service cafe serves Western and Asian-fusion food in a cosy space decorated with murals by local artists.
One of its best-known dishes is the Rock Honey Chicken, served with a glossy sweet-savoury sauce, side salad and your choice of two sides. For full comfort-food mode, there is also Chic & Waffles, Mac & Cheese and creamy Smoked Duck Pasta. The menu extends to rice bowls, burgers, all-day breakfast and desserts, which should help when everyone at the table has a different idea of what lunch ought to be.
Save room for something sweet: waffles with ice cream, warm brownie or molten lava cake make convincing reasons not to rush off after the mains.

The snack stop for “later” (or right now)
Not every craving calls for a full meal. Sometimes you just need a snack for the journey home. This is where nature-powered snack specialist Lizoo comes in.
Their signature Black Gold Chestnuts are harvested from organic farms on the eastern foothills of the Yanshan Mountains. These plump chestnuts are then freshly baked in-store to bring out their natural sweetness and nutty fragrance. With no added oil, sugar or seasoning, their natural fragrance takes centre stage.
Beyond their signature chestnuts, Lizoo has plenty more to fill the office snack drawer. Think dried baby sweet potatoes, freeze-dried strawberries, vegetable chips and savoury taro sticks.
Those after something a little more decadent can pick up a flaky Salted Egg Yolk & Red Bean Mochi Pastry, which layers red bean paste, chewy mochi and salted egg yolk in one sumptuous bite.
