‘I Feel Like Giving Up Every Day’: MasterChef S’pore Alum On Running First Food Stall My Indo Cook
Singer and actress Eka Mairina has performed before live audiences and was crowned champ in Malay singing competition Anugerah. She survived the pressure of the MasterChef Singapore kitchen and finished in the top 12 in season 3.
But nothing prepared the 48-year-old for the lunchtime crowd at her first brick and mortar Indonesian food stall.
“The first few weeks were chaotic and traumatic,” Eka tells 8days.sg with a laugh. “I didn’t eat at all for five days because I lost my appetite. I survived on plain water.”
Called My Indo Cook, the Muslim-owned stall opened on Aug 1 at Nanyang Polytechnic’s North Canteen. It serves affordable Indonesian comfort food such as nasi uduk (Indonesian-style coconut rice), Indomie (instant noodles), bakso (meatball soup) and soto ayam.
